Textile Designs and Drawings

Layers of Light

Interior textiles collection for modern theatre lobby, box office, reception or hospital areas. The purpose of each design is to lead the way through interior spaces by identifying the different areas through colour and pattern.  Lighting is used to create layers of pattern. Transparency, layering and reflections are the key aspects. Fabrics of different thickness, transparent and opaque plastics are used within the collection, combined with the screen print, embroidery and laser cutting techniques. I am looking at the pattern itself and how it is applied onto the surface through the exploration of techniques and composition.

Colour inspiration is coming from vivid kaleidoscopic imagery and fading coloured patterns created by projecting the light through the cut out surfaces. Rich tones of colour are layered with opaque surfaces creating blurred, faded shades.

Imagery is inspired by folk ornaments: bright coloured traditional costumes and cut-out wooden house decorations.
